We supported Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin Integrated Care Board (ICB) to run local workshops that captured public and staff feedback for the national 10 Year Health Plan through the Change NHS programme.
Background
In October 2024 the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) called on organisations and local health systems throughout the country to run localised workshops for patients, the public, stakeholders and staff to invite them to share their thoughts on a national project called Change NHS, a programme to help change the way the NHS works and is delivered.
The feedback from the engagement will help form the 10 Year Health Plan for England.
This will set out how to create a modern health service designed to meet the needs of a changing population. This will be focused on three shifts that the Government, health service and experts agree need to happen:
- making better use of technology
- moving care from hospitals to communities
- focusing on preventing sickness, not just treating it.
Our Communications and Engagement team led this work on behalf of the ICB to gather feedback from staff, stakeholders and patients.
Feedback was recorded, collated, analysed and sent off to DHSC as well as being written into a report of findings for the ICB.
Action
- We delivered three workshops – two to patients and the public, and one in the ICBs regular staff huddle ICB staff and board members.
- We provided facilitators and scribes as well as technical support to manage breakout rooms.
- We used two methods of gathering feedback from all events and collated all the feedback to analyse.
- We met regularly with the client to ensure project delivery.
- The team coded all feedback, put into sub categories and generated themes based on the most mentioned topics, wants and concerns.
- We delivered a report of findings detailing analysis from all three workshops in Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin and shared feedback with DHSC to help finalise the 10 Year Health Plan.
Impact
- Delivered an in-depth report of findings to the client with analysed and coded data from the workshops feedback showing what patients want from their NHS.
- Contributed to DHSCs 10 Year Health Plan for England.
- Identified key themes in how both patients and staff see the NHS in the future
- Made sure all participants knew their feedback was being captured and would be submitted.
- Introduced the client to a new feedback capture mechanism that they said they will adopt for use in future staff meetings.
