NHS Midlands and Lancashire has developed a new reporting tool to help integrated care boards (ICBs) measure, track and act on health inequalities using standardised NHS data.
Background
Tackling health inequalities has been a key policy driver in the NHS for some time and it remains at the heart of the 10 Year Health Plan.
In November 2023 NHS England released a statement which set out a set of key health inequality metrics for all ICBs to report and which would inform their work to tackle inequalities.
The dashboard includes data for all ICBs, with a summary view, monthly trends, a detailed summary for each metric, including breakdown by deprivation and ethnicity, and an indication of whether observed difference are significant or not.
Having all the data for each ICB in one place, all calculated in the same way, using the same data source provides useful insight of different health inequality priorities across the country.
For further information on the reporting tool, please contact Jon.Adamson@nhs.net, Head of Business Intelligence Analytics (Midlands), NHS Midlands and Lancashire.
The Statement on Information on Health Inequalities is currently being reviewed by NHS England ahead of annual reporting for 2025/26. For any queries or to get involved in the work to refresh the statement, please contact: england.healthinequalities@nhs.net.
