One of our two Directors of Delivery, Martin is responsible for the Midlands region. The Delivery Directors are key to strengthening the partnership between the CSU, the local ICS and the NHSEI regional team. They are responsible for the alignment and delivery of CSU service provision ensuring there is clarity and focus on supporting the delivery of the Integrated Care Boards (ICBs) objectives.
Martin is an energetic senior leader with wide ranging experience of driving transformational change programmes and operational management. With a background in consultancy specialising in process improvement and system optimisation, Martin has worked globally in a range of sectors including manufacturing, logistics and healthcare.
Since joining MLCSU in 2013, Martin has been responsible for the development and mobilisation of all new services to customers. He led a major programme to develop and mobilise the new national cervical screening service, including leading the transfer of the operation from the previous (private sector) service provider. The new service went live on time, within budget and led to significant improvements to the quality and safety of the service provided.
Martin has played an instrumental role in developing the organisational strategy of the CSU as services and offers evolve to meet the changing needs of the Integrated Care Systems we support. He led a patient experience improvement programme across the surgical division of an acute trust. This involved analysing all aspects of the patient pathway from referral into the trust, through surgery and onto post-operative follow up. He redesigned the outpatient and pre-operative assessment processes, as well as significantly enhancing patient experience on the day of surgery. This resulted in shortened waiting time and increased patient satisfaction, as well as increasing surgical capacity at the trust.
As a health sector management consultant, Martin played an instrumental role in forming a number of Commissioning Support Units from the care system support functions of numerous of Primary Care Trusts. He was responsible for designing optimised, standarised processes and organisational design. The Staffordshire CSU project won the Management Consultancy Awards, best change management in the public sector award.
