Jonathan combines medicines management expertise to recognise the growing importance of primary care and place in the NHS. In doing so, he provides additional clinical leadership. Jonathan developed, led and delivered medicines management and optimisation services and individual funding request services in NHS Commissioning Support since 2013. This delivers over £6m of NHS support per year, involves a wide supply chain of departments with a core group of around 120 professional and non professional staff.
The service has been with a high reputation for quality, value and high staff satisfaction with a good recruitment reputation. Services portfolio has diversified from NHS CCGs to include national and regional NHS England, Charity, Off shore and local authorities. Jonathan leads a number of national portfolios for support including support for the Pharmacy Integration Fund programme.
Jonathan has led the 5 CSUs medicines collaborative services since 2016 delivering outputs such as; best value biologicals national surveys, webinars and toolkits, national Area Prescribing Committee surveys. He directly manages a team of over 120 staffcovering IFR and MMO services, involving, pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, administrative and other professionals; GPs, Public Health consultants, and nursing professionals.
Jonathan manages the provision of support services for three strategic Area Prescribing Committees; Lancashire Medicines Management Group (LMMG), Pan Mersey APC, Birmingham, Sandwell, Solihull and environs APC. He was selected for and passed the NHS Aspiring Senior Leaders assessment led by Ashridge. He has gained experience and diversified in a variety of other roles in addition to medicines optimisation, including as Health Screening Programme lead, Interim Clinical Quality Lead (a board level role) and NHS Caldicott Guardian.
Jonathan took forward his idea to develop a city wide cardiovascular screening service through community pharmacies from health needs assessment, to bid development, to business planning, to delivery, and has had national recognition and influenced the development of the subsequent NHS vascular screening service.
