SUMMARY:Join our SU Insights session: creating an 'Internal Consultancy'
DESCRIPTION:The government wants to reduce the use of management consultants. Chancellor Rachel Reeves has argued that spending on consultants “got out of hand under the last Government\, and we will rein them in”. \n\n\n\nAnd yet there are good arguments for using consultants. The ability to access flexible support with specialist skills for example. Independence can matter too.  \n\n\n\nAre there ways of retaining the benefits\, while avoiding some of the downsides and excesses associated with ‘consultancy’?  \n\n\n\nAre there ways of creating specialist\, flexible from inside public services? And how can ‘internal’ and ‘external’ expertise be combined?  \n\n\n\nThis SU Insights session will explore these questions. It will combine insights from academic research – from the Universities of Bristol and York – with practical lessons from the Strategy Unit and NHS Transformation Unit. \n\n\n\n\nDate: Wednesday 19th March 2025\n\n\n\nTime: 12:00 – 13:00\n\n\n\nVenue: MS Teams\n\n\n\nRegister here https://bit.ly/4khlfdY\n\n\n\n\nWhat to expect: \n\n\n\n\nInsights from the latest academic research on internal and external consultancy.\n\n\n\nPractical lessons and reflections from leaders in the field.\n\n\n\nA panel discussion and audience Q&A session.\n\n\n\n\nFeatured speakers: \n\n\n\n\nPeter Spilsbury\, Director\, Strategy Unit \n\n\n\nAndrew Sturdy\, Professor of Organisation and Management\, University of Bristol \n\n\n\nJessica Boothroyd\, Delivery Director\, NHS Transformation Unit \n\n\n\nFraser Battye (Chair)\, Head of Policy\, Strategy Unit \n\n\n\n\nIf you’re interested in exploring these questions and contributing to this discussion\, we’d be delighted to have you join us.
